Margaret “Maggie” Lucille Shipes, 86, of Statesboro passed away August 7, 2022, at home surrounded by her family, friends and her dog, Taco.
Born in Terre Haute, Indiana on July 23, 1936 to Paul and Betty Ruth Thompson, Maggie graduated from State High School. After graduation, she worked as a waitress at Cunningham’s Restaurant in Terre Haute and remained there for over 25 years. In 1980, she moved to Savannah, GA to be close to her long-time friend, Maxine Falls. In Savannah, Maggie found work at both the M & M Supermarket and Kroger. Later, she moved to Statesboro where she worked for McDonalds.
Maggie lived her life to the fullest, having many interests and hobbies. She enjoyed crocheting, working puzzles, cooking, and baking. Calling Bingo at Ryan’s and Papas Pizza was another fun activity.
Maggie is survived by her children, Arvilla Norris, Connie Smith, Lori Busy (Norman), and Larry Kline (Jeni); stepdaughters, Kerry Kimble and Chris Beacham; adopted daughter, Stephanie Franklin; eleven grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; 4 great-great grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews and cousins; and many people who called her “Mom” and “Grandma”.
