Margaret Louise Alred, 86, of Jacksonville, IL went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, September 4, 2013, at Passavant Hospital in Jacksonville.

She was born February 28, 1927 in Manchester, the daughter of Stanley and Stella Braden Hawkins. She married Otha Jeffers in 1943 and he preceded her in death in March of 1977. She later married Carl Alred in November of 1977 and he preceded her in death in June of 1993.

She is survived by four children, James Bennett Jeffers (wife, Della) of Roodhouse, Mary Louise Edwards (husband, Tom) of Jacksonville, Carol Ann Busen (husband, Ron) of Jacksonville, and Sarah Laverne Jeffers of Jacksonville; a stepson, John Jeffers (wife, Gloria) of South Carolina; 14 grandchildren; 5 step-grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; two brothers, Raymond Lee Hawkins (wife, Carol) of Pickneyville and James Hawkins (wife, Betty) of Bethalto; a sister, Mildred Lowe of Arkansas; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Linda Irene Hymes; two sons, David Jeffers (surviving wife, Pat of Franklin, KY) and Robert Jeffers (surviving wife, Marlene of Rockaway Beach, MO); a stepdaughter, Esther Myers; four brothers, Wes Hawkins, Stanley Hawkins Jr., Don Hawkins, and Frank Hawkins; and two sisters, Alene Godwin and Catherine Fulkerson.

Mrs. Alred was employed at Kordite in Jacksonville for 14 years and later worked several years in the laundry at Jacksonville Developmental Center until her retirement. She was a member of East Union Baptist Church in rural Manchester. A talented seamstress, Margaret enjoying sewing until her eyesight failed. She enjoyed Skip-Bo card games, gospel music, church activities, and spending time with her family.
