Joni Dutczak, of Merritt Island, Florida passed away peacefully on Saturday January 11, 2020 at Cape Canaveral Hospital in Cocoa Beach, Florida after her long fight with lung disease. She is survived by Steve, her husband of 52 years; their children Stefanie Kolpak (Steve) of Denver, Colorado and Margaret “Maggi” Dutczak of Merritt Island; her beloved granddaughters Allison and Sydney of Denver Colorado; and numerous other family members that loved her.
Joni was born at the military base in Coronado, California, and raised in Montana. She moved to Denver for college where she met and married the love of her life, Steve. They spent the next two years teaching at St. Stephen’s Indian Mission in Riverton, Wyoming. She ultimately moved to Florida to work and raise her girls.
Her love of teaching translated into her profession as a reference librarian. Joni spent most of her career at Merritt Island Public Library where everyone-young and old appreciated and loved her knowledge and smile.
She had a deep affinity for St. Francis as she loved all animals. Joni was a proud rescue Mom to the many dogs she adopted over the years.
