Margaret Jane Ticknor Burnett, 77, of Beardstown, IL, died Wed., Feb. 3, 2021, in Meredosia.
She was born Nov. 29, 1943, in Beardstown, the daughter of George Ellsworth and Ida Margaret Gimbel Ticknor. She married Ray Dell Burnett on Nov. 30, 1959, in Jefferson City, MO, and he preceded her in death on June 29, 1997.
She is survived by two sons and three daughters, George Burnett of Meredosia, Tony Burnett of Jacksonville, Karen (Tom) Guinn of Flower Mound, TX, Sharon (Michael) Phillips of Meredosia, and Patty (Bob) Dale of Jacksonville; 22 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; and one sister, Judy (James) Bates of Jacksonville. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two grandchildren, Heather Phillips and Blake Burnett; one stepson, Timmy Burnett; and two sisters and one brother, Carol Ann, Doreen, and Gordon Dale Ticknor, all in infancy.
Mrs. Burnett was a Jacksonville High School graduate, and then attended Jacksonville Business & Career Institute. Early in her life she had worked for Hertzberg New Method Book Bindery and also the Jacksonville Developmental Center. She then obtained an insurance agent license and began work at several area insurance agencies. She spent a lot of her time reading and studying the Bible, and had attended Faith Tabernacle and Harvest Temple, both in Jacksonville, and most recently the First Baptist Church of Meredosia. She enjoyed crocheting, embroidery, sewing, fishing, flower gardening, singing and dancing, and listening to Gospel music and the oldies. Jane was also a history and genealogy buff. She was a people person, and treated her friends like they were her own.
