Margaret Ellen Gough, formerly of Parma, Idaho passed away at Spring Creek Memory Care in Fruitland, Idaho on July 29th, 2016 with her daughter Terry and granddaughter Meg at her side. Margaret was a second child born to Everett B. and Mable J. Knipe. She spent her early life at Sweet, Idaho on Squaw Butte and later the family moved to an 80 acre ranch outside of Nampa.
Margie attended a country school not far from her rural home in Nampa. Grades 9 through 12 we spent at Nampa Jr. and Sr. high schools. Margie went to the College of Idaho following her graduation and was a member of the College of Idaho Alumni Association.
It was at the College of Idaho that she met Theron McParlin Gough on a blind date and married him August 23, 1946.
One of Margie’s greatest interests was politics. She organized the first Republic Women’s Group of the Treasure Valley, was the registrar of election for many years and was a head election judge. She loved campaigning going door to door for candidates such as Eisenhower and Nixon, later switching to the Democratic Party. Margie enjoyed and was active in Toast Mistresses; she liked writing speeches and also wrote a column in the family newspaper.
Margie was very artistic and liked to paint with oils/water colors and draw. She was an avid reader who especially enjoyed historical novels, political subjects and works on religion.
Margie was preceded in death by her husband of 33 years, Theron; both parents; mother-in-law, Gertude Gough Brandt; one sister-in-law, Maxine Brandt and her husband Vilas; niece, Karen Brandt MacGuffie; brother-in law, Elwood Gough and his wife, Paloma and a brother-in-law, Delmar Tarlenton.
She is survived by a brother, George Dan Knipe; sister, Myrna Elizabeth Tarleton; daughter, Teresa Warrington (Sam); son, Theron Thayne (Lisa) and son, Thom. Margie is also survived by grand children: Andrew and Meagan Warrington, Jeff and Jeremy Veach; great-grandchildren, Gage and Aria Warrington (children of Andrew Warrington) and 10 nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to especially thank the staff of Spring Creek Senior Assisted Living and Memory Care and the Encompass Hospice nurses and staff for providing a home and caring so lovingly for our Mother.
