Margaret ‘Dot’ (Houchin) Ryden, age 100 of Midland died peacefully Saturday, March 10, 2012 at King’s Daughters Home. Dot was daughter of the late John L. and Linnie B. (Sims) Houchin, born January 13, 1912 in Boone County, Missouri.

Margaret married Dr. L.L. (Zip) Ryden in Fulton, Missouri on February 7, 1937 and immediately moved to Midland. He was hired by The Dow Chemical Company as a research chemist. He predeceased her March 30, 1954. Margaret served as District Director for the Girl Scouts of America (1957) and later a teacher for the Bullock Creek schools for 13 years, (1960-1973). She had been a member of Memorial Presbyterian Church since 1939, was a member of the Atheneum Club, Bridge Club, Retired Teachers Association and had served as secretary for the Board of Directors Council on Aging where she was awarded Volunteer of the Month (1982). Margaret enjoyed crossword puzzles, traveling after her retirement and spending time with family and friends. Margaret’s friends enjoyed her wit and sense of humor.

Mrs. Ryden is survived by her son, Thomas (Linda) Ryden of Midland; daughter, Anne (Richard) Caldwell of Ludington; grandchildren, Tiffany (Matthew) Schultz, Richard (Sharon) Caldwell, Erik Ryden, Kerry Ryden; and great granddaughter, Megan Caldwell.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her son, Robert L. Ryden in 1992; brother, O. Boyd Houchin, sisters, Thelma (William) Gross and Mildred Houchin.
