Margaret D. Pontious, age 84, of Sanford passed away on Tuesday, September 10, 2013 at Nottingham Place in Midland.
The daughter of the late George and Ida (Keeley) Crosby was born on August 30, 1929 in Midland, MI. On June 25, 1949, Margaret married Jim B. Pontious; Jim passed away in September, 2003. A 1947 graduate of Midland High School, Margaret began working at Dow Chemical Company as a high school co-op student and continued working in Standards Department until 1954. Margaret re-entered the workforce in 1962 as the first secretary of Meridian High School. She served in that position until moving to the administration office as district payroll manager/bookkeeper in 1977. Margaret retired from Meridian Public Schools in June, 1987. Margaret enjoyed camping with Jim, spending time with her grandchildren and family, and loved knitting baby booties for new arrivals.
Margaret is survived by sons Michael (Kathie) Pontious of Sanford and Jeffrey Pontious of Rock; daughters Sue (Don) Istre of Duson, LA, and Sharon Furst and friend, Rick Manges of Sanford; grandchildren Nicole (Carlos) Rico, Renee (Shaun) Howard, Scott Pontious, Jessie and Jordan Furst, Thomas Murray and Jacob Istre; great grandchildren, Emma, Mark, Matthew and Elie Rico, and MacKenzie Murray; brother, Ben Crosby; brothers in law, Donald (Gloria) Pontious and Nelson (Kathy) Badder; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to her husband, Jim, and her parents, Margaret was preceded in death by her sister, Elnora Badder.
The family would like to extend sincere thanks and appreciation to Margaret’s Nottingham Place “family” and Hometown Hospice for all of their loving care.
