Margaret Catherine Wells Becker, 86, of Jacksonville, IL, died Friday, Aug. 20, 2021, at Cedarhurst of Jacksonville.

She was born Aug. 6, 1935, in Auxvasse, MO, the daughter of Friend Jr. and Catherine Barton Wells. She married Ruel Becker on Sept. 26, 1954, at Grace United Methodist Church in Jacksonville, and he survives.

She is also survived by one son, Gary (Nancy Drennan) Becker of Jacksonville; one daughter, Sarah J. Becker (David) Yuska of Jacksonville; three grandsons, Jonathan (Jennifer) Yuska of Cedar Rapids, IA, and Patrick (Kayla) Yuska and Christopher (Amanda) Yuska, both of Columbus, OH; three great-grandchildren, Landon Ruel Yuska and Sydney Ruth Yuska of Cedar Rapids, IA, and Olivia Margaret Yuska of Columbus, OH; one sister, Martha Geraldine Coraor of Whitehall, PA; and one brother, Joseph (Frances) Wells of Cedar Rapids, IA. She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Mary Frances Smock; and one brother, Friend Barton Wells.

Mrs. Becker was a 1953 graduate of Jacksonville High School. She attended the University of Illinois, where she was a member of Alpha Gamma Delta, and then graduated with high honors from Illinois College in 1967. She was an elementary teacher for Jacksonville School District #117 from 1967-1974. Margaret was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Jacksonville, serving as a Deacon and Elder. She was also a former board member and Past President of the Art Association of Jacksonville, a member of the CY Chapter of P.E.O., and a member of Household Science and The History Class. She had also served as a longtime volunteer for School District #117.
