Margaret C. Coates peacefully passed away on Saturday, December 10, 2011, at Ft. Washington Hospital in Ft. Washington, MD. Born in Greer, SC on June 21, 1927, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 46 years, William H. “Billy” Coates. Margaret had been a resident of Washington, DC for over 65 years. Her professional and volunteer affiliations included Pediatric Nursing, Precinct Captain, DC Board of Elections and Ethics (Ward 5), President, Slowe School Parents and Teachers Association, and a long-time member of the McKendree Simms Brookland United Methodist Church, where she served as an Usher, Board of Trustee’s Chairperson and a variety of other ministries and committees. She leaves to cherish in her memory, two sons, Donald and David; Goddaughter Sonya Green; Granddaughters Raynel, Te’Keisha, Teresa and Tiffanie Coates; Grandson Jarrel Coates; Great Grandson Jayden Edwards; Daughter-in-Laws Sylvia, Carol and Sharon Coates and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
