After a long life of love and kindness, Margaret Casey Skehan, age 96, passed peacefully in her sleep at home surrounded by her family and husband of 74 years, Edward J. Skehan. Margaret (Peggy) was born in 1920 and raised in West Hartford where she graduated Hall High School Class of 1938. She was a member of the Casey Clan which included her sisters Mary and Irene, brothers Jimmy, Bernie and Bobby, and her parents James and Margaret (Shea) Casey, both originating from Ireland. After high school Peg worked at G. Fox & Co. Hartford where she met the love of her life, “her Eddie” (Ed Skehan). Devout Catholics, they were married in 1942 and shortly thereafter she became a war bride as Ed left for Europe serving in the Army. Peg and their first daughter waited patiently for Ed’s return, as she wrote to Ed daily. After the war the young couple built a new home in Hartford’s southwest where they would welcome more children and raise their family of eight. Those years were very busy and fulfilling for Peg as she relished her role as a homemaker and devoted partner to Ed, a Hartford fireman. She was a strong, disciplined and determined woman and mother. Peg had a keen interest in real estate and helped her husband Ed acquire and manage residential property in greater Hartford. She guided all of her children into home ownership by their early 20’s and she assisted many other young families in their search for affordable housing as well; She could have written, “The Art of The Deal.” In the late 1970’s Peg and Ed retired to Brentwood Road in Newington. They relaxed, traveled, cruised, dined, danced and always loved visits from all of their grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren – now numbering close to 50. Always one for adventure, for her 85th birthday she rode the Boulder Dash roller coaster at Lake Compounce, and up until recently always enjoyed long walks and frequent rides in a convertible car – top down. Peg would reflect daily on how blessed she felt to have her family and husband Ed.
