Margaret Anne Hawkins, February 27, 1929 – July 6, 2015.
Mrs. Hawkins died Monday, July 6, 2015 in a Temple hospital. Mrs. Hawkins was born February 27, 1929 in Refugio, the daughter of Charles Joseph McGuill and Ollie Lee Curbelo McGuill. She married Walter Melton Hawkins, November 18, 1948 in Refugio. They moved toTemple from Refugio in 1958. Together they owned Walt Hawkins Photography. She was a member of the National and Texas Photography Associations.
She was a long time member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Anne McGuill Hawkins traced her roots to early Spanish and Irish settlers in the Republic of Texas. Her father was a member of a Celtic County Wexford South Texas family and her mother a direct descendant of Don Juan Curbelo, an “Hidalgo,” and one of the Canary Islanders who founded the first civil, municipal government in Texas and the San Fernando Cathedral in San Antonio. She was preceded in death by her husband Walt Hawkins, one son Dale Hawkins, grandson Sam Hawkins, granddaughter Lacie King and son-in-law Lynn King.
Survivors include three sons, Mark Hawkins and wife Jeri, Sid Hawkins and John Hawkins and wife Stacey; five daughters Colleen Schiller and husband David, Kathleen Champange, Martha King, Sue Green and Jenifer McGoldrick and husband Grady; brother Rev. Martin McGuill; sister Mary Helen Duchek and two sisters-in-law Dorothy McGuill and Joyce McGuill; 14 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.
