Margaret Alston of Bucksport passed away on Thursday, July 20, 2023.
I Thessalonians 4: 13-14
God, in his infinite wisdom, saw fit to bring forth Margaret Ella Alston into time on October 22, I946. Margaret was born the third child of William A. and Margaret B. Alston. Her earthly residence began in Bucksport and after having fought the good fight, Margaret departed this life on Thursday, July 20, 2023, at Conway Medical Center.
Margaret began her Christian Journey at an early age following the example of her Godly parents. She gave her life to God and joined Salem AME Church in the Bucksport Community where she was baptized. She remained a faithful member there until her parents relocated to Portsmouth, Virginia. In Portsmouth, Margaret joined St. John Baptist church and remained there until she moved to Newark, New Jersey where she joined the New Hope Baptist Church.
Margaret matriculated through the public school systems of Horry County, South Carolina, and Portsmouth, Virginia. She graduated from I. C. Norcom High School in Portsmouth, Virginia in I963. Upon graduating from High School, Margaret moved to Newark, New Jersey where she remained for over twenty years. While living in Newark, she was employed by Marriott In Flight. Margaret relocated back to Portsmouth to offer her children more opportunities and became employed at the Manning Convalescent Home where she remained until her retirement. When her father was no longer able to live alone, she returned to Bucksport and was his caregiver until his death.
Margaret was preceded in death by her Parents; William A. & Margaret B. Alston; sister and brother-in-law, Peggy and Hilirie Powell; brother and sister-in-law, Samuel and Devetta Alston and great-grandson, Noir Alston. She leaves to cherish her memory a son, Brian C. Alston of Portsmouth, VA; and a daughter Lashell Simmons of Kingsland, Georgia; I0 grandchildren, I3 Great grandchildren; five sisters, Lorraine Burrough, Sarah King, Lucinda Whitfield, Betty Alston, and Priscilla Dunikins; one brother-in-law, Judson (JT) Whitfield, one aunt, Ovaletta Alston; a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, extended family and friends.
