Mardell “Mardie” Mary Gurius (Haustveit) was born to Britt and Alvina in 1941, in Powers Lake, ND. In first grade she travelled with her father by train to Idaho while he sought employment. Her family also spent time in Payette and Sparks, NV before settling in Boise. She was in the first graduating class from Borah High School in 1959. Mardie married Errol David Gurius on September 26th of that same year. Their children, Kathleen, David, and Kristine were all born in Boise. She devoted her whole life to her family, and could be very feisty when it came to their protection. We could always count on her to fix a meal or lend a hand anytime. No one ever went hungry in her home. She loved watching her family participate in sports or racing and going to live music shows. We took many family vacations and Mardie especially enjoyed going to see her youngest sister in Arizona. Mardie’s grandchildren were extremely important to her. She spent much of her time caring for them and being a positive influence in their lives. Her dogs gave her great joy, especially most recently when she became homebound. Mardie passed away quietly at her home after being cared for by her loving and dedicated husband, and eldest daughter. She will be dearly missed by those of us who knew and loved her. We are thankful she is now at rest.
She is survived by her husband, Errol Gurius; sister, Elsie Schoelkoph; three children, Kathleen Dougherty, David Gurius (Rhonda), Kristine Dunnigan (Todd), and seven grandchildren. Mardie was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, and two sisters.
