Mr. Marcus LeRoy Harris, age 92, of Lanett, Alabama passed away on Saturday, November 12th, 2022 at Valley Park Manor in Valley, Alabama.
Marcus was born on August 29th, 1930 in Chambers County, Alabama to the late Robert Samuel Harris and Mattie B. Wilbanks Harris. He attended school in Ridge Grove, Alabama. From 1949 until 1952 he worked as a folding machine operator at Lanett Bleachery and Dye Works. Later in 1952 he joined the US Army and served until 1954. During his time in the Army he was stationed at many bases, including Fort Riley, KS and Fort Sam Houston, TX. Following his service to our country he worked at Lantuck Mill, and later at O K Rubber Tires. In 1959 he went to work for the Lanett Fire Dept for five years where he was Assistant Fire Chief. In February of 1964 he began working at Uniroyal in Opelika, Alabama where he retired in 1991 after 27 years of service. He was a very big and proud supporter of all Auburn athletics.
Marcus is survived by his wife of 62 years, Jeanette Oliver Harris; son, Mark Harris (Tina); granddaughter, Erika Danielle Wood; and many nieces and nephews whom lovingly referred to him as their “Uncle Monk”.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and was the last of nine siblings.
