Obituary of Marcia P. Spence
Spence, Marcia P.
Saginaw Twp., Michigan
Passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by her family on Saturday, May 7, 2016. She was 90 years old. Marcia Ellen Parkman was born on December 2, 1925 in Saginaw to the late Paul and Nellie (Sparling) Parkman. Marcia graduated from Saginaw High School in 1943. She then continued her education at Central Michigan University, majoring in music and education. While she was at Central Michigan she met her loving husband, Donald James Spence. They were married on June 30, 1948 in Saginaw, he preceded her in death on June 27, 1996. Marcia loved to share her kindhearted spirit through teaching. She spent many years as an elementary teacher, retiring from Peter Pan Cooperative Nursery School. Marcia was a member of Jefferson Avenue Methodist Church, and enjoyed singing with their choir. She was also a member of the Junior League of Saginaw. Marcia’s greatest joy came from spending time with her family. She took great delight in planning and preparing Sunday night dinners for her family, and she will be fondly remembered for her fabulous casseroles.
Marcia will be deeply missed by her children: Janet (Thomas) Topham, Donald James Jr. (Patricia) Spence and Catherine (Mark) Moran; grandchildren: Lindsay (Nathan) Brown, Matthew Rosenberg and Erin Spence; and the world’s smartest grand dog, Gracie Spence; great grandchildren: Maya, Madelyn and Lyla Brown; sister-in-law, Beverly Spence; brother-in-law, Jackson Teetor; and several nieces and nephews.
