Marcia Kathryn Whitaker Burriss Marcia Kathryn Whitaker Burriss, 99, of Forsyth County, passed away Sunday, September 18, 2011 at Embracing Hospice, Cumming, GA. Born in Atlanta, GA, she was the daughter of the late Tolly Eugene Whitaker and Emma Mae Pierce Whitaker. Marcia was the widow of James R. Burriss. They were married for 52 years. She was preceded in death by eight siblings: Eugene Whitaker, Carlton Whitaker, Mark Whitaker, Lanier Whitaker, Charles Whitaker, Elizabeth Whitaker Strickland, Mickey Whitaker Guy, and Pat Whitaker West Dallis. Surviving are three children, James Edward Burriss and wife Janice of Fairmont, GA, Ellen Burriss Thompson and husband Ron of Suwanee, GA, and Robert Alan Burriss and wife Debbie of Gainesville, GA; eight grandchildren, Janet Burriss Pullen, Judy Burriss Jacobs, James Edward Burriss, Jr., Kathryn Thompson-Feith, Jennifer Thompson, Margaret Burriss, David Burriss, and Rachael Burriss Royal; and nine great-grandchildren. Marcia attended Decatur High School and Crichton Business College. She worked at the capitol for six years for Hal M. Stanley, Commissioner of Commerce and Labor. She worked for a year for her father, Tolly Eugene Whitaker, after he was appointed as a judge. She then worked for Ashcraft and Wilkinson and Todd Sales Company. She quit working to devote time to her family.
