Marcia K Barber, 63, passed away on May 16, 2016 at The Visiting Nurses Hospice Home of Ft. Wayne. Her passing is the result of a short battle with cancer.
Marcia was born on November 10, 1952 in Anderson to Harold H. Barber and Irma L. Barber. She was a 1971 graduate of Highland High School in Anderson. From there she worked at the downtown Frisch’s Big Boy in Anderson.
In 1973 Marcia began her 42 year career with General Motors. For 7 years, Marcia worked in several Anderson Delco Remy parts plants with a short 1 1/2 year hiatus spent working for Hawaiian Tropic Sun Tan Company while she was laid off. However, in 1980 as General Motors began its move from the Anderson location, Marcia transferred to the Oklahoma Final Assembly Division in Oklahoma City, OK. There she served as a Team Leader in more than one area of the plant, was a job bank coordinator, and served on the women’s committee. These assignments afforded Marcia the opportunity to travel with her positions to major UAW conferences and trade shows and make a great difference among her colleagues.
In 1994 Marcia transferred to the General Motors Truck and Bus Plant in Ft. Wayne. There Marcia was trained in a variety of areas women are not often trained and served as a team leader before she became a Benefit Representative. She was employed in this capacity at the time of her death.
Marcia loved her work life with General Motors, but was planning her retirement in 3 years.
Marcia is survived by her mother, Irma Barber of Anderson, sisters, Vickie Riggins of Anderson, sister, Karen Bailey Julian (Gary) of Anderson, nephew, Bryan E. Bailey of San Francisco, CA, niece, Jaami Bailey (Cory) of Anderson great-niece, Kylee Lawson of Anderson, great-nephews, Tyler L McDaniel of Anderson, Carder McDaniel of Anderson. Several cousins still reside in Indiana as well as outside of the state.
In addition to her family, Marcia leaves many wonderful friends, some of whom cared for her in the last weeks along with the family. Special friends, Kay Mundell, Verna and Thom Miller, Cathy Poolman, and Deb Grothaus were especially involved with her care.
Marcia loved her family and spent as much time as possible traveling to Anderson to see her mother and other family members.
