Marcene Ann Walker was born in a farmhouse in Tea, South Dakota on April 22, 1932 to Daniel and Bena Meyer. Marcene was a farmer’s daughter and attended country schools at Tea, Canistota and small rural Sioux Falls before attending Washington High School in Sioux Falls.
Marcene enjoyed dancing, tennis and traveling.
She met the love of her life, David R. Walker on a tennis date. They were married on February 17th, 1962, and in attendance were their friends, family, and 32″ of snow! After the wedding they moved to Denver, Colorado where they started a family.
Marcene worked at Jefferson Bank & Trust but after her daughters were born, she opted to work from home and established a very busy and thriving day care out of the house. Wanting summers off for family vacations, Marcene closed her day care and started working in the local elementary school in the cafeteria. Many family dinners were inspired by school lunches! Once her youngest daughter entered junior high school, Marcene started working at the Credit Union of Denver, where she spent 30+ years.
Marcene was a very loving, strong, giving wife, mother, grandmother whose focus was on the family. She ensured that we always spent time together. She was a hard-working woman, who never gave up and was an inspiration to all.
Grateful for having shared her life are her two daughters, Sandra (Michael) Morrison of Littleton, CO, Cheryl (Ernest) Antonio of Richland, WA; four grandchildren, Meghan (Ryan) Wiggins, Tyler Morrison, Raine Antonio and Autumn Antonio; one great grandchild, Rory Wiggins; one brother, Roger (Diana) Meyer of Sioux Falls, SD; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Marcene was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, David R. Walker; her parents; two brothers, Elmer Meyer and Amos Meyer; three sisters, Gladys Meyer, Sylvia May and Theda Ritter.
