Marcelle Anne Fricker (nee Thomas) passed away Monday, October 02, 2017 in much the same way she led her life, very peacefully. She was a very loving mother, grandmother, and recently a great grandmother. Elegant, distinguished, strong, quiet, calm, funny, even tempered and charitable are characteristics that were quickly observed by all that knew her. She was born on May 4, 1927 in Ottawa the daughter of Ferdinand and Florence Thomas (nee Pumple) the youngest and last surviving sibling of four. Her brothers Gerard, George and Edward all shared Marcelle’s infectious smile and sense of humor. She was fluent in English and French.
After graduating from Queens University in Kingston, Ontario in 1949 she worked for Prudential Insurance as a Statistical Reviewer. Later she taught math in London, then in Switzerland. In 1957 while teaching in Izmir, Turkey she met her husband Edward (“Ed”) Francis Fricker (deceased 1998). Marcelle was adventurous; she once took a freighter from Montreal to Istanbul on her own.
Marcelle and Ed raised three boys in Merritt Island Florida. In 1972 she received a Master’s Degree in Mathematics from Stetson University in Deland. A dedicated geometry teacher at Cocoa High School for many years, she later worked in Real Estate. Marcelle and Ed retired to Cocoa Beach in 1982 and they loved living in their Ocean Pines condominium.
