Marcelina Avila-Herrera was born on April 26, 1949 to Alejo Avila and Epifania Herrera in Puerto Cortes, Honduras. The oldest of eight children Marcelina is remembered as a nice sister. Marcelina was educated in Honduras.
The second mother to her siblings because of their mother’s health, Marcelina would cook, clean, iron and take care of the other children. When Mother’s Day came around one of her sisters gave her Mother’s Day cards. When asked why her sister said “because you took care of us like a mother”.
In 1974 Marcelina along with her mother, sister and brother emigrated to the United States of America. She liked to work and found employment in a factory. She also attended Queens College and an institute to get certification for a Nurses’ Aide.
Marcelina also liked the Spanish soap operas and would listen faithfully with her Aunt. Marcelina will be missed everyday. We love you Marcelina.
