Ms. Mamie Pitts Marable was born January 4, 1926, in Williston, Florida to Hattie Houston Pitts and Newton Pitts. She was the oldest of three. In 1943 at the age of 17, “Miss Mamie” moved to Washington D.C. and began her career at the post office. She would continue to work at the post office for over 40 years. She was a member of Eastern Star (female mason)- an organization that she enjoyed being a part of. In her retirement, she enjoyed shopping, completing crossword puzzles and collecting figurines, coins and stamps. She died at the age of 87 at Fort Washington Medical Center.
She is survived by her grandson Antoine McPherson, her brother Lind Pitts and her nieces Linda Harvey, Connie Roberson, and Gladys G. Whitehead among countless other nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Malton Marable, her son Frank Henderson, and several siblings.
