Mamie Parker Johnson was born on October 12, 1925 in Atlanta, Georgia to the union of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Parker. She moved to Chicago, Illinois where she married John Elwin Johnson on June 1, 1946. To this union, Sharon Elaine Johnson was born. Mamie earned an associates” degree from Roosevelt University and worked as a licensed practical nurse at Michael Reese and Columbus Hospitals.

She also worked as a private duty nurse across Chicago and surrounding suburbs. She liked reading, taking long walks and listening to the blues, Muddy Waters” “Rock Me Baby” in particular. She was an avid fan of movies, some of her favorite movies were White Heat and Casablanca.

Mamie is survived by her daughter Sharon Ekpenyong, son-in-law Boniface Ekpenyong, grandchildren Andem Ekpenyong, Karen Shifflett and her husband James Shifflett, and John Ekpenyong; her nieces, Donna Jackson, Adrienne Montgomery, Rhonda Bullock, Patrice Williams and Sheila Washington; her nephew Gregory Harrell; and other family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her sisters, Henrietta Parker, Annie Harrell and Frances Porche, and her husband John Elwin Johnson, She will be dearly missed.

Mamie will be remembered as a loving mother and grandmother.
