Mrs. Mamie Leake Simon, 86, transitioned to her heavenly home on Tuesday, November 12, 2013 at Hospice Home at High Point following a short illness.
Mamie was born on June 3, 1927 to Netta Bennett Leake and Edgar Alexander Leake in Midway, N. C. She has lived in High Point most of her life and was educated in the Guilford County School System. Mamie managed the Lighthouse Grill with her brother and was later employed by Fli-Back Toys as a Supervisor. She was one of the founding members of Temple Memorial Baptist Church where she served diligently as a Sunday School teacher and active member of Missionary Group #2.
Mrs. Simon was preceded in death by her parents; son, Leonard J. Simon Jr.; great grandchild, Briana A. Craig; brothers, Norman, Edward, and James Leake; sister, Christine Johnson; and ex-husband Leonard J. Simon, Sr. Surviving relatives include two sons, James Edward Simon, Sr. (Betty), and Darrell Norman Simon; daughters, Carolyn A. Craig (William), Gloria L. Hinson, and Jamie D. Linton (Theodore) all of High Point; fifteen grandchildren, James E. Simon II, Jermaine L. Simon, William H. Craig, Leonard J. Craig, Derita L. Craig Howell, Aaron L. Craig Sr., Antonio L. Craig, Sr., Dwayne Hinson, Debbie H. Johnson, Yalonda Linton, Tammy Linton, Terra Simon, Darrell Simon, Jerome H. Leach, and Stephanie Simon; seventeen great grandchildren, Steven, Christopher, Gabriel, Ari, Latasha, Marcus, Lisa, Aarona, Aaron, Antonio, Solomon, Braxton, Calvin, Brittany, Shawntika, Abrielle, and Malik ; seven great great grandchildren, Latoya, Diamond, Serenity, Amira, Stephanie, Isis, and Isaiah; one brother Harry Leake of Durham, NC; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
