A lifelong resident, she attended local schools and received a BS degree in nursing from Columbia University’s Long Island College Hospital. Although Mrs. Denehy enjoyed her career as an operating room nurse at Bristol Hospital and later as a nurse in the Bristol school system, she returned to school and earned two advanced degrees from Central Connecticut State University. After graduation, she taught first grade at Mountain View School for over twenty years. Mamie was a travel enthusiast and enjoyed many global adventures that featured stops on 6 continents.

Mamie was the beloved mother of Daniel M. Denehy and Susan Dederick of Fairfield, and grandmother to his twins Chelsea Denehy of Stamford, and Ryan Denehy of Los Angeles, CA.  She is also survived by her devoted sister Ann and her husband Richard Kilby of Bristol, a sister-in-law Mary Julian of West Hartford and many nieces and nephews whom she loved, enjoyed and cared for very much, as well as her dearest friends Paulette and Leo Houle of Bristol.

She was predeceased by her sister Mary Hennessy of Bristol, her brother James Julian of West Hartford and her former husband Edward C. Denehy of Bristol.

The family would like to thank the staff and residents of Mulberry Gardens for the many hours of bingo and social activities she so enjoyed while living there.
