Mr. Malcolm O. “Bud” Koons, 80, of Elkhart, passed away, after an extended illness, at Elkhart General Hospital at 4:50 p.m. Saturday, May 18, 2013.

He was born on March 23, 1933, in Boyertown, Pa., to the late Malcolm G. and Jeanetta (Edge) Koons.

He married Mary Ellen (Mutter) on Sept. 4, 1954, in Boyertown. She survives at home.

Also surviving are his sons, Michael P. (Kara) Koons of Granger and Luke E. (Michelle) Koons of Phoenix; his daughter, Maureen A. (Linda Belliveau) Asten of Tamarac, Fla.; sisters Bertha Diaz of Oley, Pa., and Margaret (James) Auchter of Reading, Pa.; brother Fulton (Susie) Koons of Boyertown; grandchildren Amber (Justin) Rowland, Elizabeth (Brad) Reimer, Erin (Andrew) Langham, Michael II (Tosha) Koons, Stephen Koons and Joji Koons; as well as 13 great-grandchildren. The family wishes to acknowledge Bud’s caregiver, Glenda Moore.

He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Rebecca Jo Koons.

Bud was a CPA and was the former owner of Torch Mobile Home Corp. of Elkhart for nearly 21 years. In 1986, he also helped to form Koons and Koons CPAs of Elkhart, a business currently being operated by his son, Michael. He was a 50-year member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church and was a lifetime member of Knights of Columbus. He was also a 1955 cum laude graduate of University of Notre Dame and was an avid Fighting Irish fan. In his spare time, he enjoyed playing a round of golf or attending one of his grandchildren’s many sporting events.
