Malcolm’s Life and Legacy

“There are two kinds of people on earth today;

Just two kinds of people, no more, I say.

The two kinds of people on earth, I mean,

Are the people who lift and the people who lean.

Wherever you go, you will find the earth’s masses,

Are always divided in just two classes……

In which class are you?” excerpts from E. W. Wilcox

The single most pronounced characteristic which family and friends will remember about Malcolm Devon “Kwak” Jones is the unusual capability which he demonstrated throughout his life for “lifting” instead of “leaning”.  Malcolm was motivated by an intense and impelling mission with improving, elevating, and ennobling the people around him.   Kwak’s goal was to touch and leave his environment better than what was presented to him.

In his personal and Christian Journey, he demonstrated traits of a “lifter”. From Malcolm’s birth on October 17, 1972, and growing into manhood, his parents Tina Jones and Thomas Lee Miller can recall that Malcolm exhibited great qualities of independence and steadfastness. As a sixth generation

Malcolm has left no doubt to his family and friends about the category to which he belonged in the family.   He enjoyed hearing about the Civil War Union Soldiers in the Allen and Hill families and the rich history of the Jones Family in the Decatur First Missionary Baptist Church.  He left for us a legacy of doing good, unselfish caring, a non-judgmental response to others, love of fishing, a sense of family history ,  and  a love of all sports  especially   “Roll Tide” Alabama.

In all of his endeavors and challenges, he allowed nothing to separate him from the “love of God through Christ Jesus” and he knew the “peace of God which transcends all human understanding.”   So, you should notice that” Kwak” was a “lifter”, and it was the power of God in his life that sustained him and gave to him the strength to greet each new day with rejoicing, thanksgiving, and a healthy laugh.

Cherishing his memory, his life and his legacy include:  his wife, Becky Turner Jones; two sons, Cameron and Cole Jones; two step-children, Haley and Jordan Turner; his parents, Tina Jones and Thomas Lee Miller; two brothers, Tavares Jones {Sabrina}, and Cedric Pryor; one sister, Shantell Miller; his great aunt, The Grand Matriarch of the family, Mrs. Billie Augusta Allen Phillips; and a plethora of uncles, aunts, cousins, classmates, and best friends.
