Born March 20, 1940, in Akron, Ohio, he moved to Tucson, AZ in 1951. A member of the Boy Scouts of America, he also starred in productions at Tucson Little Theater, indulging his longtime passion for drama. Graduating from Catalina High School in 1958, he later served in the US Army Infantry, graduating top 10 of his OSC class, performing two tours in the Vietnam War, and later retiring as a Major in 2000. He attended the Univ. of AZ earning a BFA in Theater Arts. An enormous fan of the movies, he served as an advisor to the AZ Film Commission & worked to preserve cinematic culture in our state. An avid sports fan, he supported the AZ Diamondbacks & his beloved Wildcats.
Major La Due passed away on Thursday, October 1, in Scottsdale. A warrior, scholar, artist, film buff, friend, husband, father, grandfather and patriot (who was never shy about sharing his opinions), he will be missed, cherished, and celebrated by all those who knew him. He was preceded in death by brother Thomas Frederick La Due, father John Byron La Due, Jr, son John Byron La Due III, and mother Florence Malinda La Due; and is survived by his devoted wife of 44 years Kim La Due (né©e Nguyen), daughter Patricia Tate, son-in-law Sean Tate, granddaughters Trinity and Reese Tate, and numerous family and friends.
