Magdalyn Kathryn Marlow

1919 ~ 2014

Magdalyn Kathryn “Burkie” (Burkhartsmeier) Marlow went to meet her Lord on Wednesday, May 14, 2014 after a brief illness at the age of 94. She was born in Devils Lake, ND on September 23, 1919. She grew up on farms near Devils Lake, Rugby and Cando, ND. She graduated from Cando High School and from Business School for advanced secretarial training and became secretary to Congressman (at large for the state of North Dakota) William Lemke and his legal assistant in January, 1939. The three of them consisted of the entire congressional staff serving the state of North Dakota. During her time working with Congressman Lemke, she met Earl Louis “Bud” Marlow of Bowman, ND. They were married on May 12, 1941 in Washington D.C. During WWII she worked both at the Pentagon and for a federal government housing agency in Portland, OR while Bud was deployed overseas in the US Army. After moving to Boise during the early 1950’s, she worked as a secretary for the Bureau of Reclamation until her retirement in 1979.

She was a loving and caring mother who always put her children first. She was a Den Mother for the Cub Scouts and followed her children’s’ sports and school activities closely. She was always there to offer her children assistance whether it was driving the kids and their friends to South Jr. High swimming pool or typing a perfect term paper.

She is survived by five children, Michael (and Cheri) Marlow of Midland, MI, Kathleen (and Dan) Boller of Tucson, AZ, Dan Marlow of Boise, ID, Larry (and Sharon Pratt) Marlow of Lake Stevens, WA and Patrick (and Lisa) Marlow of Boise, ID, nine grandchildren, four granddaughters in law, two grandsons in law, and ten great grandchildren and a sister Evangeline Caverly of Fargo, ND. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bud, a son, James “Jim” Marlow, her parents, Michael and Magdalena (Volk) Burkhartsmeier, three sisters and six brothers.

The family would like to thank Heart and Home Hospice for all the special care and support over the last weeks.
