Gertrude H. Green daughter of the late Harry and Servilla Hoskins was born May 1, 1918 in Whiteleysburg, MD. She departed this life on Thursday, September 20, 2018 at her home in Harmony, MD.
Gertrude was educated in the schools of Queen Anne and Caroline County. She obtained her G.E.D. in November, 1974.
Early in life, during the war, Gertrude worked at the Defense Plant in Wilmington, DE. She would catch the bus at the end of Lockerman Road on Sunday evening and return there on Friday evening. She was also employed at the Cannery in Caroline and Dorchester County and at Saulsbury Bros in Ridgely, MD for many years.
In the 1900’s, she married Pliny Green and moved to Harmony, MD and began her life as a farmer’s wife. She also joined Ross Chapel AME Church in Preston, MD around the same time. Gertrude served in every capacity she could to be a help to her church including; being an usher, a stewardess, a Missionary treasurer, which she cherished, and she sang with the Maryland Harmonettes and the senior choir. She served faithfully until her health began to fail.
Gertrude leaves to mourn her passing, her three children; James Henry Hoskins of Denton, MD, Mable E. Friend of Preston, MD, and Kathlyn O. Forman of PA., 12 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren and 23 great-great grandchildren. Besides her parents, one son, Perry Forman and one daughter, Geraldine Griffin preceded her in death.
