Westerly, RI – Madelyn Catherine (Daley) Thumm formerly of 23 Benson Ave., Misquamicut, RI died on June 15. She was born in Norwich, CT on July 7, 1913 daughter of Edward and Anna (Bresnan) Daley. Madelyn was united in marriage to Rudolf F. Thumm on October 24, 1940.
Madelyn was a founding member and communicant of Saint Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Warwick. She also was a founding member and one of the first presidents of the Rosary Guild there. For years she was an active member of the Warwick Democratic Women. For most of her life, Madelyn was a homemaker, but when her children were teenagers, she went to work at Warwick City Hall. When she and Rudy retired they moved from their Warwick home to live year-round at the beach cottage in 1977, they had bought in 1944. She became a year-round communicant at Saint Clare’s Catholic Church in Misquamicut.
She was predeceased by her husband, Rudolf. Madelyn is survived by her son Fred and his wife Chris of Hilton Head, SC; her daughter Bonnie Edwards and her husband Steve of Waterford, Maine; two sisters-in-law, Irene Daley and Helen Daley of Norwich, Connecticut. Her grandchildren include Brian Thumm and his wife Cheryl; Karen Thumm and her husband Jack Finlin; Josh Edwards and his wife Elizabeth Greason; Daniel Edwards and his wife Julia. She is survived also by three great-granddaughters who brought her great joy; Zoe Finlin, Victoria Thumm and Sadie Greason – Edwards. In addition, she is survived by many nieces and nephews and by special friends Carol Azzinaro and Pat O’Brien.
Madelyn was predeceased by three brothers; Edward, Raymond and John; three sisters; Rita (Daley) Brown, Dorothy (Daley) Prentice and Maureen Daley; by three sisters-in-law: Emily (Thumm) Shermen, Gertrude (Thumm) Potter and Martha Thumm.
