Madeline May Swartz, age 98, of Cassopolis, died peacefully at home, Tuesday, May 3, 2022 in the comfort of her family’s presence.
Her life began April 13, 1924 in Buchanan, Michigan, the youngest of five children born to Simon and Adeline Johnston. She married James LeRoy Swartz February 14, 1939 in South Bend, Indiana. After more than forty-eight years of marriage, he preceded her in death in 1987.
Madeline will be greatly missed by family and friends. She is survived by three daughters, Sandra Lindauer of Kalamazoo, Geraldine Specht of Dowagiac, Kathryn Swartz of Niles; two sons, Joseph (Patty) Swartz of Cassopolis, William Swartz of Cassopolis; ten grandchildren, ten great grandchildren; five great great grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, Ruby McFadden, Gladys Davenport; and two brothers, Vernie Johnston, and Gene Johnston.
