Born on January 7, 1930 in Chicago Heights, IL, she passed away peacefully on November 8, 2010 in Phoenix, AZ. Madalen was known as Pookie to all those who loved her. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister to fifteen siblings and aunt. Pookie was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Nicholas Peter Verges and fourteen of her siblings. She is survived by her sons Chris (Donna), Nick Jr, (Sherry), Gregory (Robin); daughters Penelope, Mary Staszak, Patricia Daudell; grandchildren Nicholas Peter III, Natalie, Chris Verges, Katelynn, Karley Daudell and Justin Rice. Pookie was our family matriarch who taught us the true meaning of love, generosity and family unity. Pookie opened her heart to everyone she met and close friends became part of her extended family. She will be remembered for her cooking, card games and gardening. Although her presence will be gravely missed, she will live on in our hearts forever.
