Macario Rios, (46) of Dallas, Texas passed away on October 22, 2021. He was born with Down’s syndrome and was so much more than his diagnosis. He had a kind soul and gave love unconditionally to anyone he met.
He participated in many programs including Special Olympics, Down Syndrome Guild – Dallas, Camp Summit, Camp Seek, and various day programs. He made numerous friends through these organizations and looked forward to attending them every year.
In 1986, he was chosen as a United Way Poster child. This campaign helped raise funds and awareness for individuals with intellectual disabilities. Raising awareness continued through his participation in Special Olympics, where he won numerous awards.
Though he had many challenges, one of his greatest accomplishments was graduating from Hillcrest High School in 1997.
He had a unique ability to light up a room with his smile – he loved to dance and was the life of the party. His favorite pastime was watching his favorite t.v. show ‘Knight Rider’ and all Superhero movies. Mac was also an artist who loved to draw. He always looked forward to attending the annual State of Fair of Texas. He was Big Tex’s greatest fan.
Mac was a gentle, funny, clever, and amazing man who lived a full happy life. Most importantly he was loved and has left a special place in everyone’s heart.
Mac was preceded in death by his father Ruben. He is survived by his mother Stella Rios, and his sisters, Kris Padilla, Esther Martinez, Angelina Chavez, and brother Mark Rios. Also, many nieces, nephews, and great-nephews.
