Mable Louise Hammond passed away peacefully on January 28, 2022, in Canon City, Colorado, just four months from her 100th birthday. She was born in Breckenridge, Texas on May 23, 1922, to Mary V. and Ivan Rhea Detrich.

The Detrich children lost their mother at an early age and were separated and sent to live with various relatives. Mable spent the next five years with an aunt in Pennsylvania. After moving back to Hays, Kansas she resided with her beloved grandfather Albert Doc Walker. In later years she moved to Wichita, Kansas, and made it her home until 2020 when she established her home with her daughter and son-in-law in Canon City, Colorado.

She worked for Safeway for many years and then opened Hammond Liquors which she built into a well-known westside business.  Mable was very devoted to supporting her loved ones and helping them whenever possible.

Mable is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Beverly (Manny) C’deBaca; grandchildren, Tracy (Stephen) Tankersley of Leoti, Kansas, Vince (Kelly) Spradling of St. Joseph, Michigan, Scott Spradling of Oswego, Kansas, and Tori Tucker of Powell River British Columbia, Canada; great-grandchildren, Claire Spradling, Elizabeth Drohman, and Amelia and Huxley Styner; great-great-grandchildren, Kinzie, Madi, and Riggins Drohman. Mable is preceded in death by her parents, Mary and Rhea Detrich; sisters, Betty, Shirley, Bonnie, and Helen; brothers, Robert, William, and Norman; sons, Fred John Hammond and Michael Dennis Tucker; grandson, Nicholas Tankersley; and special friend, Walter Ruick.

Mable leaves behind many friends and Maple Gardens Apartments; special friends, Jan Pentecost, Sandy McCoy, Randy Phillips, and Sharon Salyer; cousins, Gaylen Edwards and Holly Puttman; numerous nieces and nephews, and her beloved “Charlie the cat”.
