Mabel Shannon Connor was born on September 2, 1923 in Pennsylvania to the late Harry Skidmore and Laura Duckworth Skidmore. She moved to Maryland when she was a young child, and attended Frostburg High School, graduating Class of 1941. She worked for the U.S. Government at Ft. Meade as a procurement specialist for 30 years. Upon retirement when she was 65 years old, she was recruited to work for Harry Diamond Laboratories for two years.
