Mabel Marie Traugott Etzold was born the youngest of four children on February 16, 1918, in Cole Camp, MO, to parents Emma (Granneman) and Theodore Traugott. After graduation from Cole Camp High School, Mabel worked as a domestic in Kansas City, MO, before attending nursing school and graduating with an RN degree from Lutheran Hospital in St. Louis, MO. On August 31, 1942, Mabel married a young Lutheran pastor, Herman A. Etzold. Throughout their 61 years together Mabel generously opened their home to parishioners, professors, and students alike, offering her warm and gracious hospitality. As a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, Mabel was equipped as a Stephen’s Minister, a ministry that she continually offered to others, even in her last years as a resident at Heartland Park. Mabel’s greatest joy in life was her family and creating a loving home. Mabel passed away on June 28, 2013, in Seward, NE at the age of 95 years, 4 months and 12 days. She and Herman were blessed with seven children: Thomas Etzold; Mary Vanagas; Elisabeth (Don) Schroeder, Los Angeles, CA; Rhoda (Rev. Murray) Finck, Santa Ana, CA; Bonnie (Mike) Johnson, San Diego, CA, Rachel (Tim) Pozehl, Seward, NE, and Peter Etzold, Seattle, WA; Grandchildren, Klaus, Ingrid, Mary, Alex, Peter, Joshua, Justine, Erin, Annie, Adam, Ben, Sam, Jonathon, Kira and Eliot: four great-grandchildren; son-in-law, Anthony Vanagas of Azle, TX; daughter-in-law, Suzanne Bertman of Vero Beach, FL. Mabel was preceded in death by her husband, Herman, son, Thomas and a daughter, Mary Vanagas.
