Mabel Lee Williams was born on January 27, 1934, in Minden, Louisiana to her parents, Dave Shyne and Fannie Mae Clark Shyne. She was the fourth child born in the family. She was raised surrounded by the love of her brothers, Curtis, Sammie, Otis, Kaiser, Dave, Jr., Robert and her sister, Effie. As a child, Mabel love to fish and climb trees. She also enjoyed picking walnuts and peanuts. She received her early education by attending Emily Griffith Opportunity School. In 1950, Mabel united in holy matrimony to Murphy Miles, Sr. They first met in Louisiana.
