Mabel Effie Ekis, 99, of Grafton, passed away Tuesday, November 16, 2010 at Grafton City Hospital. She was born in Barbour County on March 13, 1911, a daughter of the late Edgar C. Skidmore and Rosa (Lohr) Skidmore. Mabel is survived by two sons, Clyde Phillips, Jr. and wife Mary of Grafton and James Ekis of Grafton; one daughter, Susie Mewshaw of Illinois; four grandchildren, Karl Mewshaw of Illinois, Angie Bolliger of Grafton, Kari Croston and Jaime Ekis of North Carolina; and two great-grandchildren, Sean Knotts and Olivia Bolliger of Grafton. She is also survived by two step-sons, Ronald Ekis and wife Connie of Tennessee, and Benjamin Ekis of Florida; and five step-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Clyde Phillips Sr. in 1933 and her second husband, Andrew Ekis in 1985, two brothers William Skidmore and Dale Skidmore, one son Robert Ekis, and one step-grandson. Mabel was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She enjoyed cooking, reading, and gardening. She was an avid bowler. She was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church.
