On Saturday, May 14, 2016, Mabel E. Horn, age 94 of Essex passed away peacefully at Upper Chesapeake Hospital. She was the daughter of the late Edward and Emma (Wilhelm) Crowe. Her loving husband, John Henry Horn Sr., preceded her in death along with three brothers, Edward, Ellis, Gilbert Crowe and three sisters, Ida Morgan, Faye Garlitz and Mary Engle.

Miss Mabel as she was known is survived by three children, Joan and her husband Jerry Walden of Middleburg, FL, John and his wife Norma of Essex, MD., and Terry Niswonger of Aberdeen, Md. She is also survived by her four grandchildren, Jerry Walden Jr. of Middleburg, FL, Sean Walden and his wife Holly of Orange Park, FL, Zola and her husband David Foret Jr. of Middleburg, FL and Brian Wolf and his fiancé Amber of Abingdon, MD.

Miss Mabel is also survived by her remaining brothers and sisters, Betty Garlitz, Sheffield Lake, Ohio, Emma Walker, Avilton, MD, Glenn and Ronnie Crowe both of Amherst, Ohio as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Miss Mabel was born on April 29, 1922 in Avilton, MD and she grew up on the family farm with her brothers and sisters. At early age, she moved to Baltimore, where she met her husband to be, Henny at his brother’s rooming house. Miss Mabel worked at various jobs prior to marriage from clothier, bakery and then at Glen L. Martins Aviation. Shortly thereafter, she left employment to raise her family in the community of Essex, MD. She kept busy throughout her years and was known as the matriarch of Loraine Avenue.
