M. Patricia (Pat) Flaherty (nee Largey), 91, of Manchester and Lavallette, NJ, passed away Thursday, September 16, 2021. Born in Kearny, NJ, she was a lifelong resident of Kearny before moving to Manchester, NJ in 1995. For many years, Patricia was an Administrative Assistant at National Westminster Bank in Jersey City, NJ. As a woman of faith, she believed in volunteer work. She served as a Lector, RCIA coordinator, and Parish Council Member at St. Stephen’s RC Church, Kearny, NJ and later served as Lector at St. John’s RC Church, Lakehurst, NJ.

Patricia was treasurer of Inter-County Council on Drug & Alcohol Abuse, Treasurer of Friends of Erin, both of Kearny, NJ. She was instrumental in starting the Irish Club at Leisure Knoll, and volunteered at Providence House, Whiting, NJ, for which she received their “Woman of Influence Award” As the daughter of Irish immigrants, she was proud of her Irish roots. She was a member of the Nutley Irish American Association, where she was the first woman president. She served as their Secretary and Trustee, was named the 1991 Irish Member of the Year and was the 1995 Deputy Grand Marshall.

Patricia was an Irish Step Dancer, and avid Golfer who loved to travel, read books, listen to music, complete crossword puzzles, and watch Jeopardy. She was predeceased by her husband, James Flaherty, her parents Henry and Margaret Largey, her sons John, Joseph, and Kevin Flaherty, and two sons in law Rich Kijak and William Martone. She is survived by her 7 children; James Flaherty and his wife Bernadette of Lavallette, NJ, Eileen Martone of Toms River, NJ, Janet Kijak and her longtime partner Tom Betten of Toms River, NJ, Stephen Flaherty and his wife Phyllis of Point Pleasant, NJ, Brian Flaherty of Fort Mill, SC, Barbara Pino and her husband Hector of York, SC, a daughter in law Shannon Flaherty of High Point, NC, Patrick Flaherty and his partner Keith of Phoenix, AZ, a sister Dolores Horgan of Greenwood, IN, a sister in law Claire Goldstein of Brick, NJ, 18 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren and many loving nieces and nephews.
