M. Norman Taylor, Jr.
Marion Norman Taylor Jr. died at the Legacy Assisted Living in Canon City, Colorado on December 10, 2016. He had been under the care of the Fremont Regional Hospice for several weeks and died peacefully. During his lifetime he had a variety of jobs from window washer, theater usher, laborer on the Cherry Creek Reservoir, and rancher, to Chief Director of Systems Control and Data Processing for the State of Colorado until his retirement in 1984.
His roots are in the Wet Mountain Valley where he came from a ranching family and spent many of his growing up years. Marion, AKA Norman, retained his love of ranching, spending time on the side, managing and leasing the ranch south of Cotopaxi that he purchased from his parents and other family members in 1948. He had a multitude of hobbies, including stamp and coin collecting, lapidary, and reading the Denver Post which he subscribed to until his death.
In 1958, Norman met the love of his life Wanda DeBont when they were both state committee representatives for the Democratic Party. When he married Wanda, he got more than a wife. Two girls, Marjie and Nancy ages 10 and 8 came with the package. Wanda’s death in 2012 devastated Norman. He lived independently for two more years, and after that his declining health made more care necessary.
