M. Lucile (Schenck) Roupe, 98, of West Des Moines, Iowa joined her loved ones in heaven on October 31, 2011 following hospitalization for injuries sustained in a fall. She was born in Huntington, Iowa on May 14, 1913 to Lulu Brawford Schenck and DeLloyd Schenck. She spent much of her youth in Estherville, Iowa and received an Associate of Arts degree from the junior college there. Lucile followed this by completing her education and obtaining her teaching certificate from Iowa Teachers College, now the University of Northern Iowa. She taught in a one-room school house near Huntington and later in Lake Park and West Bend where she taught fifth grade. In West Bend she met Melvin Leroy Roupe owner of Roupe Furniture, who she married on November 7, 1942. She was described in their West Bend Journal marriage announcement as an excellent teacher and a splendid young lady. They raised four children in West Bend : Lynne, James (Jim), Sherry and Lisa. Lucile enjoyed traveling, every opportunity for a family get-together and instilled a love of the Iowa Great Lakes in her children, a favorite recreation spot in her single years. In her declining years she especially enjoyed ice cream outings with her son-in-law Dick and visits by family including her granddaughter Melanie Sesker and daughter Sherry. She is survived by her daughters; Sherry Grund of Clive, Iowa; and Lisa Leber (Richard) of Boise, Idaho; daughter-in-law, Carol Roupe of Georgetown, Texas; son-in-law, Dick Wilderman of Des Moines, Iowa and sister, Beverly Lutz of Estherville, Iowa. In addition, she is survived by 10 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. Going before Lucile were her parents, her brother and sister (Gail and Nellie), her husband of 48 years, Melvin Roupe; her daughter, Lynne; her son, Jim; and great grandson Logan.
