M Jean Monroe, 94, formerly of Fairmount, died Thursday, December 6, 2018 at Wesleyan Health Care where she had been a resident for several years.
Jean was born in Grant County on January 8, 1924, daughter of the late Willis H. and Cecile Vivian (Tetrick) Ratliff. Jean graduated from Fairmount High School in 1941 and had attended Earlham College. Jean married Clyde Monroe on December 29, 1946. They were married 65 years before Clydes death in 2012. Jean had worked at Custers Last Stand where she was an order assembler for 15 years. She also worked in the RCA cafeteria for 8 years and retired from Madison Grant Community Schools in 2005 after 17 years in The Summitville Elementary Cafeteria. Jean enjoyed playing the piano at Back Creek Friends where she was a member and enjoyed flowers and sewing.
Jean is survived by Daughter: Kay (Mike)Hiles, Jonesboro, IN, sons: Darrell (Becky) Monroe, Fairmount, IN Terry (Jeri) Monroe, Peru, IN; grandchildren: Patsy (Joe) Saling, Jannel (Gary) Eakright, Tanya (Jason) Ford, Jeremiah (Jodi) Monroe, Vanessa (Andy) Montgomery, Brandon (Tia) Monroe, and Joshua and Micah Hiles; and 22 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren.
Jean was preceded in death by her sisters Vera Ruth Smith and Dorothy Ann Adams, and her grandson Jeremy Baskett.
