Don McEntire Melvin Donald McEntire, 92, died Saturday, January 14, 2017 at Wesley Woods of Newnan following a long, full life. He was born on August 11, 1924 in Rome, Georgia to the late William McEntire and Cinderila Couey McEntire. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers Oscar, Albert, and Charlie McEntire, and his sisters Lillian Countess, Sarah McEntire, Thelma Smith, and Matilda Buffington. After spending his childhood in Rome, he went on to serve in the United States Army during World War II, April 1943-December 1945 in the European Theater. During his honorable service, he received a Purple Heart and two Bronze Stars. He married Martha Pauline Greer in 1947 and they lived in Don’s hometown of Rome where they were members of Oostanaula United Methodist Church. He was also a member of Shannon Masonic Lodge #100. He is survived by his wife Pauline and two grown children, son Dennis McEntire and his wife Sally of Newnan, and daughter Joan Christian of Rome, as well as three grandchildren, Elizabeth Williams and Clay McEntire of Newnan, and Ashley Dew of Germany, and three great-grandchildren.
