Lynn Edwin Paul, 83, passed away September 1, 2010 in Texas from complications of diabetes and congestive heart failure, just short of his 84th birthday. Born Oct 9, 1926 in Huntington Indiana, he was the son of Charles and Merle Paul, also of Huntington.
He served in the Navy during WWII as a dispatcher, stationed off the coast of West Virginia. He attended Purdue University graduated in 1951 with a Bachelor of Science degree, then went on to earn a Masters Degree in Physics from The University of Michigan in 1957.
He married Phyllis Ann Young of Huntington in 1952, who preceded him in death in 2002 after a 50 year marriage. He moved to Texas in 1968 with his wife and 2 children and became a developer of night vision devices for Varo Semiconductor. While at Varo he was responsible for the invention, design and production of various night vision and optical devices.
His groundbreaking research and subsequent patents, as well as production-line designs and management led to the creation of readily available fog-free and infrared vision glasses, instruments and other optics currently used by the police, military and in space exploration. He has devices still on the surface of the Moon. He was listed in “”Who’s Who in the South and Southwest’ for 3 consecutive years (14th, 15th and 16th Editions) and was well known in the scientific community. After retirement he bought his first personal computer and continued his hobby and passion of stock trading and investing.
He enjoyed fishing, and continued to stay abreast of current scientific developments. His sharp mind and friendly sense of humor remained keen throughout his life. He is survived by daughter and son-in-law Meri & Dean Davis of Plano and granddaughter Kimberly; son and daughter-in-law Philip Paul and Roxanne Wilson of Dallas, sister Rosanne Navin of Baltimore and cousins Jane Anne and Dean Thomas, both of Huntington.
