Lyle Nelson, age 91, of Livermore, Iowa, passed away on January 21, 2020, at Friendship Haven in Fort Dodge, Iowa. Lyle Curtis Nelson, the son of Peter and Esther (Nelsen) Nelson, was born on January 28, 1928, near Goldfield, Iowa. He attended rural school near Renwick, Iowa. In 1941 he moved with his family to a farm near Eagle Grove, Iowa. He graduated from Eagle Grove High School in 1946. After high school, he was employed by Tobin Packing and Sears-Roebuck until he entered service in the U.S. Army in 1950. On December 16, 1950, Lyle was united in marriage with Elizabeth (Betty) Conley at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Livermore. Lyle served in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Germany during the Korean War. After his discharge from the Service, Lyle and his wife purchased the K O Hardware in Livermore and operated the store until 1989 when they sold the business and he retired. Lyle was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church. He was a Livermore city council member for a number of years, was a volunteer fireman, and served as finance officer and chaplain for American Legion Post #415. Lyle enjoyed fishing, golf, sports, tending his flowers and spending time with his nieces and nephews and their families. Left to cherish Lyle’s memory are his siblings, Margaret Olson of Harlan, Iowa, Doris Harms of Fort Dodge, Iowa, and Jim (Janet) Nelson of Reston, Virginia, and his nieces, nephews and their families. Lyle was preceded in death by his wife, parents, sister Betty Nelson, and brothers-in-law Gerald Harms and Willard Olson.
