Lyle Marie Bouwhuis, age 84, died Sunday, July 6, 2014 in Kalamazoo. She was born November 15, 1929 to Wm. Edward and Marie Lieby Arends in Grand Rapids, Michigan. The family then moved to Comstock, where she graduated from high school, in 1947. On February 6, 1956 she married Wesley J. Bouwhuis, who preceded her in death in 2010. Lyle was a bookkeeper for Arends Petroleum, AMS Mechanical and Westside Autobody. She and Wes traveled all over the UnitedStates often taking their children or grandchildren.
Lyle was a very good cook and seamstress, making most of her own clothes. As a member of Bethany Reformed Church, she taught Sunday School, was a member of the Evening Women’s Circle and Guild, Club ’59 and worked in the Food Pantry. Lyle was preceded in death by her parents, her sister, Bonnie Starner. She is survived by her four children, Candy Jim Shearer, Cindy Bouwhuis, Terry Bouwhuis, and Edward Bouwhuis; her grandchildren, Rachel, Rebecca, Jessica Shearer and David Jeanna Paffhausen; her two great-granddaughters Alissa and Madelyn Paffhausen; her brother-in-law Donald Starner and his two children Susan Steve VandenBerg and DonaldPamela Starner, and several Bouwhuis nieces and nephews.
