Lyle E. Gillham was born April 3, 1926 in Chariton, Iowa to Stanford and Edna Marie (Owen) Gillham. He attended Chariton schools and graduated from Chariton High School in 1944. Lyle enlisted in the Army Air Force in 1943 and served two years of active duty in the Pacific Theater of Operations, receiving an honorable discharge in 1946. He thoroughly enjoyed being a BNSF railroad engineer for 37 years.
In 1953 he married Barbara Essey Whitehead and to this union three sons were born, George, Arthur and Phillip. They spent many happy years raising their family together, traveling and camping.
In 1992 Lyle married his high school sweetheart, Wanda Blackstock Krutsinger. They loved wintering in Arizona for 12 years.
Lyle passed away on August 21, 2013, after a long struggle with Alzheimer’s disease. He is survived by his wife, Wanda, sons, George and Art (Mary Ann), two grandsons, a granddaughter and a great granddaughter, five stepchildren, thirteen step grandchildren, four step great grandchildren and a brother, Donald Leslie (Sarah) Gillham.
