Lyle B. Smith, 76, of Newnan, passed away Wednesday, October 21, 2015, at his home after an extended illness. A son of the late Almado and Irene Button Smith, Mr. Smith was born in Gorham, New Hampshire May 31, 1939.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 37 years, Nina Burrell Smith in 1998, and his sister, Nancy Young in 1972. He was an elevator mechanic for over 30 years. He was also the owner of the Land of Oz Childcare and Learning Center for 22 years. He retired from the U.S. Elevator Corporation in 1995. Mr. Smith enjoyed woodworking and building.

In his retirement, he enjoyed traveling. He was a devoted husband and father and was kind and generous to his extended family. He loved serving the Lord and was a charter member of Cornerstone United Methodist Church.

He is survived by his loving wife of 15 years, Muriel Smith; sons Richard Smith and wife Sherry of Sharpsburg; Gene Smith and wife Mimi of Greenville, Georgia; and beloved niece, Genevieve Baxley and husband Allen of Cumming, Georgia, as well as step-children Robert Blechl and wife Juanita of Pensacola, Florida; Sherry Shepherd of Pigeon Forge, Tennessee; Sandy Stanfield and husband Kevin of Newnan; and Rick Blechl of the home. Also, surviving are his brother, Gerald Smith, of Dover, New Hampshire, two grandchildren, nine step-grandchildren, one great-grandchild, and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
