Lyle Anderson, 78, of Springfield, IL and formerly of Virginia, IL died Friday, September 26, 2014 at Regency Nursing Care Residence in Springfield.
He was born May 21, 1936 in Cass County, the son of Howard P. and Beulah Gerdes Anderson. He married Virginia Kay Hierman on March 18, 1962 in Virginia and she preceded him in death on April 27, 2011.
He is survived by three sons, Chris Anderson (partner, Jonathan) of Springfield, Doug Anderson (wife, Mya) of Cypress, CA, and Darren Anderson of Springfield; four grandchildren, Nathan, Matthew, Luke, and Hannah Anderson, all of Cypress, CA; a sister, Charlene Anderson of Virginia; three brothers, Andy Anderson (wife, Shirley) of Jacksonville, Leroy Anderson (wife, Edra) of Jacksonville, and George Anderson (wife, Judy) of Springfield; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Richard Anderson (surviving wife, Carol of Springfield); two sisters, Joan Coffey and Mary Gregory Murphy; and three half siblings.
Lyle was a 1955 graduate of Virginia High School and served with the US Army from 1959 to 1965. He was engaged in farming in rural Virginia his entire life. In addition, he was employed by Anderson-Clayton Foods in Jacksonville and later operated the family business, Hierman’s Appliance Store, from 1965 until his retirement in 2004. He was a member of the Virginia United Methodist Church and a former member of the Virginia Jaycees and Virginia Lions Club. He also volunteered at the Virginia BBQ for many years. He enjoyed country music and brief getaway road trips. During his retirement, he enjoyed visiting family during trips to Fort Lauderdale, FL, Nashville, TN, and Los Angeles, CA.
